Crochet Lap Blanket being crocheted with skein of cream colored yarn and cup of coffee sitting next to it.

A crochet lap blanket pattern that is both simple and repetitive! This cozy blanket pattern is wonderful for gifting and donating!

This project would be a great crochet lap blanket for seniors or someone who may be in a wheelchair. They seem to fit perfectly into the chair over the person’s lap!

This blanket would also make a great crochet baby blanket! It has a nice solid stitch and would look great in any color to match baby’s nursery!

Pattern Inspiration

The Ferguson Lap Blanket crochet pattern uses the same great textured stitch combo as the Ferguson Hat and the Ferguson Scarf.

I just love this texture and the stitch combo is so easy and repetitive. It’s a wonderful project to work on in the car or while watching television.

This blanket makes a wonderful gift for adults and children alike!

Pattern Details

This crochet lap blanket pattern calls for worsted (#4) weight yarn.

I used two skeins of Lion Brand Yarn Pound of Love for my Ferguson Lap Blanket. It is a great acrylic yarn that comes in a variety of colors. It is also machine washable and dryable, so it’s easy to use for gifts because the recipient won’t need to put a lot of thought into the care of the yarn!

Another great yarn for this project would be Brava 500 from WeCrochet. This is also a large skein and you would only need 2 skeins to complete this blanket.

It took me about a skein and a half to complete the measurements in the pattern. I loved using pound of love because you only have to add yarn once. The whole skein is 1020 yards!

The pattern is rated Easy in pattern difficulty. Only a few basic crochet stitches are used throughout the workup.

The lap blanket is worked in a simple stitch multiple as well, so you can make it any size you prefer. You will work in rows. A trim is optional. The tassels pictured on the blanket below are not included in the pattern but you can find many tutorials on how to make yarn tassels online.

  3. This pattern is such a great one for projects ‘on the go’ – I love working working on blankets with this pattern at my son’s soccer games and practices, super easy to pick up where I left off!

    1. Yes, I join my yarn mid stitch and then pull through. Then I usually cut the previous color and weave the ends into the blanket.

  4. Could this be made with a heavier yarn? Like a bulky 5?If so would there be any adjustments that would need to be made?

    1. You could. You would just need to use the multiples and chain until you get the length you desire.

  5. Hi I bought your pattern on etsy but I need a little bit of clarification. Should the (sc,dc) stack on top of each previous row, or do they alternate? For some reason I’m having a really hard time figuring that out. Thank you!

  6. Just double checking, at the end of the rows after I skip a stich, do I do a sc and dc in the very last stich before I turn and chain 1?
