I’d like to preface by stating that this is not a sponsored post. Furls Crochet did not ask me to write this review. I reached out to them after using the Streamline hooks for a while and they have so graciously offered a discount code and product for me to give away! The views expressed in this post are my own and are my honest opinion on this product.

Why I Made the Switch to Streamlines

I’ve been crocheting for 9 years nearly every day since the day I learned. I started my crochet business 7 years ago and now crochet is my career. I crochet a lot!

Over the past year or two, I started to have pain in my left hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder. This is the hand I crochet with.

The pain would range from a small ache in the knuckle of my thumb to a burning sensation in my shoulder. After many visits to the chiropractor and my own doctor, I’ve been diagnosed with tendinitis in my left shoulder. This is a direct result of the long hours of repetitive movement I do when I crochet.

When the pain started to become persistent and I had to stop crocheting for longer and longer periods of time, I decided to try a new crochet hook. I needed something that I wouldn’t have to grip as tightly as I worked my stitches.

I had one furls streamline crochet hook already that I had not really used much so I decided to give it another try. The relief was almost instant!

What I Love About Furls Streamline Crochet Hooks

My first Furls Streamline hook was the Ebony wood in a 5.00mm (H) size. The longer length was one of the first things that stood out to me. That helps a lot when crocheting because there’s no edges poking you on the other side of you hand.

I also really love how lightweight the hook is. Because it is so lightweight I don’t have to grip it very hard and it just sort of glides through the yarn. With other hooks I had such a tight grip that the knuckle of my thumb would just constantly ache. These hooks being so lightweight gives much relief to my fingers and wrist.

The Furls Streamline Swirls weigh slightly more than the wooden ones. I only have one of these hooks, and haven’t used it much, but I have compared the weight. It is definitely heavier, but still not as heavy as some of the other crochet hooks I have used in the past. I would still consider it a very lightweight hook.

Did My Pain Go Away?

I am so happy to say that after using the Furls Streamline crochet hooks for over 2 months now, I haven’t had any finger, wrist, or arm pain!

My shoulder still bothers me from time to time, but tendinitis is something that can take months to heal and can easily return. But I am able to crochet again, after having to take a few weeks off to heal, partly because of these wonderful hooks!

The Furls Streamline crochet hooks help so that when I am crocheting I don’t have to do as much work, taking a ton of the pressure off of my shoulder as well!

In the past two months I have grown my streamline collection to 9 hooks! I wanted to have one in every size hook that I use regularly because I never want to have to use another crochet hook again! These hooks have literally made it possible for me to crochet again and for that I am so thankful!

Although I wonder if it would feel odd holding it because how wide it is in a middle. Especially if never used awider hook handle. But they look gorgeous. I’m glad it helped you with your pain.

  12. I have several of the swirls Streamline crochet hooks. My husband bought most of them and some Odyssey hooks for me as gifts before he passed away in January. 26. I use both Streamline and Odyssey hooks and love them both. I have damaged muscles in the top of my wrists (not carpal tunnel) from my work when I was installing slot machine bases, having to twist my hands to reach award places to bolt the bases together. I use them constantly on big projects and when the pain starts in. Yes they took time to get use to but they do help tremendously.

  27. I’ve used furls a few times. I have a couple of the swirls. I agree, they are lightweight! I don’t have strong wrists, so the lighter the hook, the better.

  28. I use Streamline, Swirls and Oddesy depending on the yarn. I too have tendinitis but in both arms (hands, elbows, shoulders) and finding these hooks was a game changer. Please do try them out, each is different. Good luck everyone and thank you for the raffle!

  34. I have used only Furls hooks for several years now and have not had any hand or wrist pain since I made the switch. I have almost a full set of the Odyssey and the Streamline Swirls. I love both styles. They truly are everything they are made out to be.

  35. I’ve never used a Furls crochet hook. I’ve done so much research on them and read wonderful reviews. I’ve followed them on all their social media venues admiring their beautiful designs. I must admit, I am feeling the aches and pains of crocheting for more than thirty years. However, crocheting is a stress reliever for me. My grounding foundation in a world of hectic uncertainty. Thank you for you beautiful, informative and encouraging blogs. I truly enjoy your patterns and posts.

  36. I’ve never used a furls crochet hook, but I’ve seen them recommended in a few different places, and once I’m finished school and have an income again, I’d like to look into them!

  37. I’ve ordered my Furls, but have never used one. You gave a very good review on them and I hope to be just as pleased. Thank you for the coupon and the giveaway. Have a good day.😊

  40. I have never used Furls hooks just can’t justify the expense for one hook. I also am not sure if I would like the bulk in my hand, I currently use metal hooks and have had for 47 years. I have never had issues with my hands or wrists but I do with my shoulder not crochet related. I guess if I don’t try at least one Furls hook I’ll never know. Michelle , you and so many others have said how wonderful they are and I’m so glad they have solved your issues.
Thanks for the giveaway. Good Luck Ladies !

  41. I have several different Furls hooks; a couple of odyssey, regular streamline and the swirls and I prefer the swirls. The odyssey are just a bit too heavy for me, but the swirls are lightweight and the yarn just glides so nicely. I do wish that they were a bit shorter because my hands aren’t very big, but that’s the only thing I would change.

  42. I’ve used furls a few times. I have borrowed them from my friend. I do not have any due to my fixed (tight) budget. They are lightweight; comfortable to use! Maybe this will be my chance to get one.

  43. Hi. I’ve heard and read so much about the Furls hooks. And you make them sound like a dream to have. Thanks for the giveaway. Good luck everyone.

  44. I haven’t used a Furls hook yet but I have been thinking of trying one out. There are a lot a really good reviews on their hooks.

  45. I am excited to have an opportunity to win your giveaway for a Furls hook! I too have pain with crocheting, I’m going to have save up & try one, I’ve heard so many good things about them, maybe I can buy one for myself for my 50th birthday this September, but which one? I don’t know where to start, size? Colour? So many choices! Thank you for your generosity & congrats to the winner!!

  46. I LOVE my odyssey hooks! I want to try the streamlines. I have noticed I don’t hold my hook as tight with them and considerably less pain.

  47. I got my 4th and 5th ones in the mail today. I have been lucky enough to get all of mine while onsale. I now have 3 Streamlines and 1 Streamline swirl and one yellow and Nickle Odyssey. I love all of them. I too have tendonitis in my right shoulder, the one I crochet with, and I also have some cervical disc issues, these hooks make me feel so much better when I use them. I was very skepticle of the Odyssey because it is so heavy, but I absolutely love it. The weight helps my wrist and arm and shoulder feel better too. I think because of the grip and the difference in weight, it has a different way to work with it, and does not tire as easily. I am a true believer in their hooks. I just have to wait for them to be on sale. If it was not for their Birthday sale, I never would have been able to get the Odyssey one because I am a chronic pain patient and cannot work, and also cannot get disability, so fund age is low. I have lucked out so far this year, but I think my luck may have run out so far.as far as being able to purchase. I will keep my fingers crossed about any giveaways! I hope you enjoy your hooks as much as I do mine 🙂

  48. I fortunately have 9 Furls Streamline hooks, 6 which I purchased directly from Furls & 3 which I purchased via Cre8tion Crochet as a special promotion. I absolutely 💗 them & hope to acquire more – perhaps a few of the beautiful Streamline Swirles. Thanks for the opportunity.

  49. I have many Furls Crochet Hooks!

  52. I had a Furls wooden hook that I enjoyed but it rolled off the table and broke. The replacement wasn’t anything like what I had and don’t use it ever. Doesn’t fit my hand well like my original did. Very disappointed.

  53. I became addicted to the streamline swirls last fall.I love the smooth feel. I also use my streamline wood H which was my first ever. My wrist hurts during double crochet and furls really make it better.

  54. I have not tried them yet….but I’m really on the fence! I’ve heard good and bad about them. I kinda wish they sold all the common sizes (D-J) in a set with a discounted price. I really don’t want to buy each hook individually, because you know what happens….you need a hook in the size you don’t have.

  55. I have been using furls for years….so my favorite hooks. I have 2 of their yarn bowls, 2 necklaces and 2 hook cases. So glad to hear they help you too.

  56. I have suffered with pain in my right arm before (tennis/golfers elbow) from trying to complete a blanket I had gotten behind on. I will definitely look into these hooks from your recommendation. Thanks!

  58. I love Furls! I finally ordered a few last month (Streamline and Odyssey) and I am DEFINITELY a fan. I also have some shoulder pain from crocheting, and hand/wrist issues, so I’m hoping these will help. I can’t wait to get some of their gorgeous Tunisian hooks, as well!

  59. Thank you for this post. I have been seriously considering purchasing a Furls hook, but I wasn’t sure if it’s worth the price. Good luck all!

  60. Nice review! Glad your pains are going away! I too have not tried a Furls, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about them. I’m a December birthday, so I’m putting Furls on my birthday/Christmas list!

  61. I absolutely love using my streamline furls when making blankets and scarves and such, they are light weight and fit right in my hand as to not have to struggle to find that great grip that lets you crochet for a bit longer between breaks…thanks for the great opportunity and good luck to all that enter!!

  62. I have never used a Furls hook but would very much like to try one out as all reviews definitely make them seem very rewarding to use.

  66. Thanks for the review. These are very beautiful hooks. It is wonderful how the use of these new hooks have reduced you pain. I would love to win so that I could try them out myself.

  67. I love my furls. I have 2 oddessy, and two Streamline swirl and I love them! They are different sizes of course and work so much easier than the slender hooks I started with.

  68. I have several Furls hooks in Streamline and Odyssey styles. They are extremely helpful for hand fatigue. I don’t want to use anything else.

  69. I have never used the furls hooks, but have heard so much about them, that I would love to try them. I have difficulty with mobility so using a hook that causes less pain would be just what I need.

  70. I haven’t used a furls crochet hook yet…..I would love to but it always seems like my rainy day fund for purchasing one always gets used for something that comes up………..

  71. I have furls streamline three of them and furls odyssey 1 all gifted to me from my son. I love the handles, they are beautiful but the hook you can keep. They constantly snag on my yarn when crocheting due to being pointy. They have slowed me down. I really wanted to like them.

  72. Thank you so much Michelle for the recommendation, just received my Laurel Streamline wood crochet hooks and are so smooth, will continue to use them and hopefully I will have some relief on my shoulder pain.
