About the Hat

The Making Waves Hat is a quick project to make in 4 different sizes, 3-6 months, Toddler, Child and Adult. Depending on the fiber you choose, this textured hat can be worn any time of the year. Specifically, Courtney made this hat to match the Making Waves Waistcoat to create a complete outfit to be worn on any occasion.

Whether you use a solid color or a slow color changing yarn, like Lion Brand Mandala, you’ll love the crossed stitches that create a reversible fabric.

This hat is worked top down from the crown in rounds that are not turned, but the sides of the hat are turned to reduce the natural slanting of crochet. The crossed stitches allow for considerable stitch so the finished hat may appear too small, but will fit comfortably and have room for growth.

If you prefer your hats to be longer consider adding 1-2 more rounds of the Treble Cross Stitch, or more rows of single crochet for the band.

Notes

Pattern is written in US terms.

Pattern is worked in 2 sections: Crown, Side

The crown is made in connected rounds that are not turned.

The side of the hat is created by turning each round.

The cross stitches will alternate direction for each round to create the zig zag pattern. Make sure you turn each round and that the direction of the leaning stitches are opposite of the row below.

The cross stitches tend to be stretchy, so the hat may appear too small or too large until all rounds have been completed.
