Pattern Inspiration

Summer here in Florida is pretty much year round. So one day, when we were headed to the beach, I was wishing I had a nice top that I could wear over my swimsuit. Something made with cotton so that if it got wet it wouldn’t be an issue. But also something nice and comfortable and cute!

That’s when I decided to crochet this top I was dreaming about! It’s made with a very simple stitch combo and a cotton blend yarn, making it a perfect swimsuit cover!

I also worked it from the bottom up, and slightly oversized, so that it can be made sleeveless, short sleeves, or long sleeves!

It’s a great sweater for summer or for transitioning to cooler weather, whether you choose to wear it over a swimsuit or just a tank!

Pattern Details

The Sassy Summer Sweater crochet pattern calls for worsted (#4) weight yarn. I used WeCrochet Shine Worsted for my most recent one.

Shine Worsted is a cotton blend made of 60% Pima Cotton and 40% Modal. It can be machine washed and dried. It comes in a really nice variety of colors!

However, you can use any worsted weight (#4) yarn, but I highly recommend a cotton or cotton blend if you’re using it for a swimsuit cover.

The pattern comes with instructions for women’s sizes XS-2X.

It is a bottom-up workup, with sleeves added at the end. The sleeves can be customized to be any length you prefer. The length of the entire top is also customizable.

The pattern is leveled at intermediate. Simply because it is a garment and knowing basics on how to measure and construct a garment is needed. But you will only need to know basic crochet stitches for this project.
