The Camellia Cardigan is a beautifully textured crochet piece, perfect for those who appreciate both style and comfort. Made with a plush, cozy yarn, this cardigan features a sophisticated, textured stitch pattern that adds depth and visual interest to the fabric.

The design includes roomy front pockets and ribbed cuffs, adding both functionality and a polished finish to the overall look. With its relaxed fit and open front, the Camellia Cardigan drapes effortlessly, making it an ideal layering piece for cool mornings and chilly evenings.

Whether you’re heading out for a casual stroll or settling in for a cozy night at home, this cardigan offers the perfect blend of warmth and style.

Women’s Crochet Cardigan

The Camellia Crochet Cardigan pattern comes with written instructions for women’s sizes XS-5X.

It has approximately 3-4″ of positive ease, making it slightly oversized and very cozy!

The cardigan is worked in 3 long panels, two front panels and a back panel, that are sewn together along the sides and at the top. Then, sleeves and trim are crocheted on to the panels, and optional pockets are sewn on at the end.

This women’s crochet cardigan pattern is rated Intermediate in pattern difficulty, although I have no doubt that an adventurous beginner could create this. It does require some basic knowledge on garment sizing and ease, but the stitches are beginner level.

There is sewing required for this cardigan. If you’re new to sewing crochet pieces together, I have a video on How to Seam Crochet Pieces Like a Pro that I think you will find helpful.

The Yarn

You will need a DK (#3) weight yarn for this crochet cardigan project.

I used Paintbox Simply DK for my sample cardigan. This yarn is 100% acrylic and very cozy and comfortable.

This yarn comes in very large variety of colors from pastels to neutrals to vibrant brights! It’s one of my favorite DK yarns, especially for cozy wearables and blankets!

If you’re looking for a yarn to substitute, I’d recommend the following:

Gloss DK – 70% Merino Wool, 30% Silk – a luxuriously soft yarn perfect for a cardigan!

Brava Recycle – 100% Acrylic, soft and sturdy and very similar to Paintbox Simply DK

Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK – a 100% cotton that is so nice to crochet with and wear!

Sewing Panels Together

Lay your back panel with WS facing up. Lay your two front panels on top of the back panel, RS facing up.

Counting from the bottom up for 72 (71, 70, 72, 70)(68, 69, 68, 66) rows and place st marker.

Using a long tail of yarn and a yarn needle, sew the panels together from the bottom up to the stitch marker. (I recommend using the mattress stitch.) Fasten off.

Do the same on the opposite side.

Now, using another long tail of yarn and yarn needle sew the top of the panels together to create the shoulder seam.

Fasten off. Move on to Sleeves Section.

Sleeves

Facing WS, join yarn to bottom of armhole, at the armpit area, and near where your st marker is.

Round 1: Lch, work 1 dc, 1 sc evenly around the entire armhole for 48 (52, 54, 58, 60)(64, 66, 70, 74) total stitches, join to first st. (48, 52, 54, 58, 60)(64, 66, 70, 74)

Round 2: Lch, turn, 1 dc in first st, 1 sc in next st, *1 dc in next st, 1 sc in next; repeat from * around, join to first st. (48, 52, 54, 58, 60)(64, 66, 70, 74)

Rounds 3-40 (40, 40, 42, 42)(44, 44, 46, 46): (or to desired length) repeat round 2. Note: Sleeve trim adds approximately 4.5โ€.

Round 41 (41, 41, 43, 43)(45, 45, 47, 47): ch 1, turn, *sc2tog; repeat from * around, join to first st. (24, 26, 27, 29, 30)(32, 33, 35, 37)

Do not fasten off. Move on to Sleeve Trim.

Sleeve Trim

Step 1: Ch 21

Step 2: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (20)

Step 3: sl st in next 2 sts of sleeve.

Step 4: ch 1, turn, 1 blo sc in each sc across. (20)

Step 5: Ch 1, turn, 1 blo sc in each sc across. (20)

Repeat steps 3-5 all the way around the sleeve.

Slip stitch both ends of trim together. Fasten off. Move on to Bottom Trim.

Bottom Trim

Facing RS, join yarn to bottom of cardigan at the front corner.

Row 1: ch 1, work 1 sc in each ch across. (130, 136, 152, 168, 182)(196, 206, 212, 228)

Rows 2-3: ch 1, turn, 1 flo sc in each st across. (130, 136, 152, 168, 182)(196, 206, 212, 228)

Fasten off. Move on to Front Trim.

Front Trim

Facing RS, join yarn to front bottom corner of cardigan, where bottom trim begins.

Row 1: ch 1, work 1 sc in the side of each row up the front panel, across the neckline, and back down the second front panel for a total of 204  (202, 202, 210, 216)(214, 220, 218, 218) sts. (204,202, 202, 210, 216)(214, 220, 218, 218)

Rows 2-3: ch 1, turn, 1 flo sc in each st across. (204,202, 202, 210, 216)(214, 220, 218, 218)

Fasten off.

Optional Pockets(Make 2)

Pockets are approximately 6โ€ x 7โ€. To make them bigger, work in multiple of 2+2 to your desired width. Add rows to your desired height.

Ch 24

Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, *dc in next ch, sc in next ch*, repeat from * across. (22)

Row 2 (RS): Lch, turn, 1 dc in 1st st, 1 sc in next st, *1 dc in next st, 1 sc in next st*, repeat from * across. (22)

Row 21: ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st across. (22)

Rows 22-23: ch 1, turn, 1 flo sc in each st across. (22)

Fasten off.

Sew one pocket on each front panel.

I measured 5โ€ up from bottom trim and 2โ€ in from front trim for my pockets. I recommend pinning your pockets to the garment and testing out the placement before sewing.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block.
