Pretty in Pink Beanie Crochet Pattern
Items needed:
Worsted weight size 4 yarn- Red Heart “Super Saver Yarn” used in samples.
Yardage:
Yarn Amount Needed for Both Beanies: 280-300 yards
5mm US H crochet hook and 5.5mm US I crochet hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Tape measure
Faux Fur Pom (Optional)
Abbreviations:
Chain Stitch – ch
Single Crochet – sc
Single Crochet Back Loop Only – scblo
Half Double Crochet – idc
Double Crochet – dc
Slip Stitch – sl st
Notes:
This pattern uses US Crochet Terminology.
This stitch pattern used for the body of the hat is made using a Stitch Multiple of any even number.
Gauge:
Ribbing for Adult Beanie: 4 inches = 12 rows (6 ribs)
Body of Adult Beanie: 4 inches X 4 inches = 6 “cross-over clusters” wide and 8 rounds of pattern (from Round 1 through Round 8.
Sizing:
0 – 3 Months and Adult Woman Sizes
Finished Size of 0 – 3 Months Beanie: 6 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches wide
Finished Size of Adult Woman Size: 9 inches tall and 10 1/2 inches wide
0-3 Month Size Beanie Pattern:
(This hat is made from the bottom up….starting with the ribbing.)
Ribbing:
Using the “H”/5.00 mm Hook, ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Then sc in each chain across the row. Ch 1. Turn. (5 st)
Row 2: Work 1 sc in the first sc. Then work 1 scblo in each stitch across the rest of the row until the last stitch. Work a regular sc in the last stitch. Ch 1. Turn. (5 st)
Repeat Row 2 till the fabric measures 13 inches. This will be 40 rows. Be sure to end with an even number of rows. Remember, you can make this hat larger by increasing the number of rows. Again, just be sure you end up with an even number of rows.
Seam the short ends of the ribbing fabric by matching the right sides of the fabric and seaming the short ends together using a slip stitch. This will be about 5 slip stitches. Ch 1. Don’t fasten off. Turn the seam to the inside.
Body of the Hat
Round 1: Ch 1. Single crochet in the end of each of the rows around the hat. Slip stitch to the top of the first sc. Ch 1. (40 st). DO NOT TURN on this round or any of the following rounds.
Change to “I” Hook (5.50 mm) for the next row and the rest of the beanie.
Round 2: Work a half double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch to first hdc. Ch 2. (40 st)
Round 3: Skip 1st stitch. Double crochet in the next stitch. Double crochet in the skipped stitch. *Skip next stitch. Work a double crochet in the next stitch. Work a double crochet in the skipped stitch.*. Repeat from * to * around the round. (This forms a series of “cross-over clusters”.) Slip stitch in first double crochet. Ch 1. (40 st)
Round 4: Work a half double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch to first hdc. Ch 1. (40 st)
Round 5: Work a single crochet in the first stitch and in every stitch around the round. Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Ch 1. (40 st)
Round 6: Work a half double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch to first hdc. Ch 2. (40 st)
Round 7: Skip 1st stitch. Double crochet in the next stitch. Double crochet in the skipped stitch. *Skip next stitch. Work a double crochet in the next stitch. Work a double crochet in the skipped stitch.*. Repeat from * to * around the round. (This forms a series of “cross-over clusters”.) Slip stitch in first double crochet. Ch 1. (40 st)
Round 8: Work a half double crochet in the first stitch and in each stitch of the round. Slip stitch to first hdc. Ch 1. (40 st)
Round 9: Work a single crochet in the first stitch and in every stitch around the round. Slip stitch to the first single crochet. Ch 1. (40 st)
(Finishing Rounds). Work 1 sc in the first stitch. *Skip 1 sc, work 1 sc in the next stitch.*. Repeat from * to * all the way around. Do not sl st to first st. Just continue working around until you have 3 or 4 stitches left.
Fasten off leaving a tail of yarn to close up the top.
Using yarn needle and the basting stitch, close the small hole left at top of hat. Weave in ends at top and at ribbing. Attach pompon, if desired.
Adult Size Beanie Pattern
(This hat is made from the bottom up….starting with the ribbing.)
Ribbing:
Using the “H”/5.00 mm Hook, Ch 8.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Then sc in each chain across the row. Ch 1. Turn. (7 st)
Row 2: Work 1 sc in the first sc. Then work 1 scblo in each stitch across the rest of the row until the last stitch. Work a regular sc in the last stitch. Ch 1. Turn. (7 st)
Repeat Row 2 till the fabric measures 18 inches. This will be 62 rows. Be sure to end with an even number of rows. Remember, you can make this hat larger by increasing the number of rows. Again, just be sure you end up with an even number of rows.
Seam the short ends of the ribbing fabric by matching the right sides of the fabric and seaming the short ends together using a slip stitch. This will be about 7 slip stitches. Ch 1. Don’t fasten off. Turn the seam to the inside.
