A special thanks to LoveCrafts for providing the yarn for this review. Although, I was sent the yarn at no charge to me, this is my personal and honest review.

Paintbox Yarns from LoveCrafts has quickly become one of my favorite yarns to use. Paintbox yarn comes in a variety of weights, fibers, and colors at an extremely affordable price!

Today I’m going to be sharing my thoughts on Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran!

About this Yarn

Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran is a worsted weight yarn or aran weight yarn, which is also classified as a 4 weight. It has just enough thickness to make it nice and cozy for sweaters, hats, and blankets!

Simply Aran is made of 100% premium acrylic. It can be used for both crochet and knitting. One skein is 3.5 oz and 201 yards.

This yarn is machine washable and can be tumble dried on low heat. Check out my post on How to Care for Your Crocheted Garments for more information.

Simply Aran comes in 49 different colorways! The colors range from dark and deep to light pastels and neutrals!

You are very likely to find the colors you are looking for in this beautiful variety of choices!

The price point for this yarn is $3.00 a skein at full price. LoveCrafts also has yarn sales fairly often, so you will likely be able to find it at a lower price. I feel this is a very affordable and reasonable price for the quality and amount you get.

My Thoughts

I find the Simply Aran to be a true worsted (#4) weight. Sometimes yarns can be thicker or thinner than what you expect, based on the label. I think this one is definitely true to the weight it is labeled.

It is soft and strong, and doesn’t pill. I have used it for a few of my designs and I find it to be very comfortable against the skin.

Misty Grey is the colorway I used for the Rory Sleeveless Sweater.

The Little Textures Newborn Hat crochet pattern is another pattern this yarn works great with. You can find this pattern in the Free Crochet Patterns section of the LoveCrafts website!

This sweet newborn beanie is great for brand new babies! But you definitely want to use a soft yarn when making it, so I found that Simply Aran was great for the job.

I also really loved that it had these nice pastel, “baby” colors. It’s not always easy to find truly pastel yarns.

Personally, I think this yarn is great for all sorts of projects. Especially items like hats, scarves, and blankets. It is a great yarn for cold winter months!

Other Patterns Using Paintbox Yarns

I have also designed the Michelle Sweater and the Katie Baby Blanket in Paintbox Yarns Simply DK! The DK is just as wonderful as the Aran!

Overall, I’m very pleased with Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran. It is soft, durable, and affordable. I will recommend it to fellow crocheters.

  1. Thank you Michelle. Like you I love PAINTBOX yarn s
Sadly to receive a delivery of the yarns by the time we add the exchange rate them exorbitant postage We in Australia end up paying more than twice what people in the stares pay.
Sadly for most of us it’s just not affordable
    Cheers

  2. I made a huge mistake I bought 10 balls of paintbox in the blush in the Aran not the cotton, thinking that would be enough. I ran out and so I ordered 10 of the cotton, hoping it would be close of enough a match but it sure did not turn out that way. I need 20 more of the Aran to finish my blanket. They are out of it and I know if it comes back in stock it will be 200.00. I can’t afford it unless I can put it on a payment plan. I am bummed because I love this yarn, and I love the blanket it was going to be a gift to my sister.
