Starting chain does not count as first st unless stated otherwise in the pattern.
Check your sizing after the beginning band, fsc tensions vary from person to person so you may need to go up or down a hook size for a good fit.
You can also chain if you don’t know how to do fsc but make sure you get gauge starting with a chain if you do it that way.
