Frequently Asked questions
Is this crochet men’s scarf pattern beginner-friendly?
Yes! This pattern is a great choice for adventurous beginners. If you’re comfortable with basic crochet stitches and ready to learn a new technique, you’ll find this project both approachable and rewarding. If you need a little help with the stitch pattern, you can also view my Bar Stitch Video Tutorial.
What yarn works best for a crochet men’s scarf?
I used WeCrochet Wool of the Andes Worsted for my scarf. But any smooth yarn with good stitch definition will help showcase the textured stitch pattern. Wool, acrylic, and wool-blend yarns are all excellent choices, depending on your climate and personal preferences. For the best results, follow the yarn recommendations provided in the pattern. I’ve also listed several good substitutions below.
Can I make this crochet scarf longer or shorter?
Yes! Scarves are one of the easiest crochet projects to customize. Simply add or remove rows to adjust the length. A longer scarf offers more styling options, while a shorter scarf creates a classic, streamlined look.
Is this a good crochet gift for men?
Absolutely. The clean lines, subtle texture, and classic styling make this scarf a practical accessory that works with a variety of wardrobes. It’s a thoughtful handmade gift for fathers, husbands, sons, brothers, friends, or anyone who appreciates timeless, functional accessories.
Will this scarf work for women, too?
Of course! While the Tarragon Scarf was designed with a masculine aesthetic in mind, its clean, classic style can be worn by anyone. Simply choose colors that suit the recipient’s personal taste and wardrobe.

About Tarragon
The Tarragon Scarf was one of those designs inspired by the stitch. I originally used this stitch pattern for one of the sweaters, but found it too bulky and boxy for a garment. So I decided to use it for a scarf and I’m so pleased with the look.
The post stitches in the scarf give it a cabled look without doing too much. It’s crisp, clean, and simple, which is usually how the guys prefer it.
The ribbing trim gives the ends a unique and sophisticated look.
This scarf looks great worn with a favorite sweater, shirt, or jacket. It is both stylish and warm, so it’s great for the cold months of winter. Wear it to a special event, or just every day to work or play.
The Yarn
