The Tarragon Hat is a classic, textured beanie that looks both stylish and functional. Featuring ribbed detailing, it provides a snug yet comfortable fit, perfect for keeping warm in colder weather.
Cabled Crochet Hat for the Family
The Tarragon Hat crochet pattern comes in 4 sizes covering a head circumference of 16-23″. This is a great hat to make for everyone in the family!
It is worked from the bottom up, with the ribbing brim added at the end. The hat has approximately 1-3″ negative ease and stretches nicely to fit.
This crochet pattern comes with a full pattern tutorial, as well as a stitch tutorial!
Be sure to grab the matching scarf pattern to create a lovely set! It would make a wonderful gift for a loved one!
The Yarn
The yarn used in the photos for this cabled crochet hat is Wool of the Andes Worsted. However, if you are making this for the cancer challenge or for a loved one, I’d highly recommend using a softer yarn that is easier to care for.
Some great yarns to use for this hat are Swish Worsted, which is a 100% fine superwash merino wool, or Mighty Stitch Worsted, which is 80% acrylic, 20% superwash wool. Both can be machine washed and are very soft!
Any other worsted weight (#4) yarn you prefer should work as well, just be sure to check gauge!

Cancer Challenge 2024
I am always honored to be taking part in the Crochet Cancer Challenge, hosted by Christine of Sweet Potato 3, every year. This is a wonderful event and I am proud to design a hat for it!
If you are new to the Crochet Cancer Challenge, it runs the entire month of October. Every day a new crochet hat pattern is featured. Using a code, you can download the hat for free. By downloading the hat, you agree to make at least one hat and donate or gift it to a cancer patient, center, or hospital.
This year, I am once again honoring my cousin with my hat pattern design. I honored her in the 2019 cancer challenge, as she was fighting breast cancer at that time. She has been fighting cancer for quite some time now, on and off. In 2023 she received the sad news that her cancer had returned and had spread to her brain and she had to have a major surgery to remove as much of it as they could. With wonderful doctors by her side, and a great treatment plan, she is currently doing very well!
The gray brain cancer ribbon is the color I chose for this year’s challenge. It is to honor her and her fight.
