Frequently Asked Questions
Is this pattern beginner-friendly?
Yes! This easy pattern is completely beginner-friendly and uses only single and double crochet stitches, with simple increases. This would be an ideal pattern for a first crochet hat project.
How long does it take to make?
Most crocheters can complete this beanie within an hour or two! This makes it a great choice for last-minute gifts or craft fairs.
How do I choose the right size for my hat?
Measure the circumference of your head (or of the person who will be wearing the hat). When measuring, wrap the measuring tape around the head, keeping it snug and taut but not tight. If your measurements fall in between sizes, choose the larger size—especially for kids, who will grow into the hat.

If not using bulk yarn what size yarn needle to use?
You will have to check gauge to determine what size hook you need for the yarn you are using. Otherwise the fit will likely come out wrong.
Great pattern! My hat is perfect!
I absolutely loved the pattern and my beautiful hat was done in a few hours! My only small regret was going down to a J hook because I wanted a more fitted feel and I absolutely got that. I loved this pattern so much that now I am working on a second one with the recommended K hook size for my yarn. God has blessed you with a wonderful creative gift and I thank you for sharing it with others.
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the pattern!
Can I sell the finished item??
Yes you can! Just please link back to this post for credit. Thanks for asking!
My husband’s head is 24 1/2 inches around. How can I make it wider?
I’d continue increasing. So after round 3 of the teen/adult size do another round:
Ch 2, 2 dc in same stitch as ch 2, 1 dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next 2 sts*. Repeat from * around, join to 1st st. (40)
Then continue on from there with the stitch count of 40.
Thank you so much!!
Your reply to Terri McKinney was prefect for what I needed. Tho, I guess I crochet a bit loose now-a-days, as it came out a bit large and loose. So I went down size I had which was K, and did the brim with it, and yes, did it a bit tighter.
Came out lovely and done in about 1 day which even for me was fast, I’ve gotten older and slower. Will post a pic when I can on your page.
Thanks for a lovely pattern!!
Hi Michelle can I use any chunky yarn for this pattern ? It’s lovely I have a lot of chunky yarn that I could use.
