The KJ Hat is a super simple crochet pattern that can be made with your favorite bulky weight yarns!
It is a beanie style hat with a ribbed brim at the bottom. This crochet hat is completely unisex and will look great on anyone!
The KJ Hat crochet pattern was designed for the 2019 Cancer Challenge hosted by Sweet Potato 3.
Pattern Details
The KJ Hat is a bottom-up, beanie style hat. You will start with a ribbed brim and then work the body of the hat around the side of the brim. You will then decrease your stitches and cinch the hat closed at the top.
The pattern calls for bulky (#5) weight yarn. I used Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky for my sample hat, in the colorway Pixie.
Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky is made of 70% Superwash Wool and 30% Nylon. While it is a true #5 bulky yarn, it does have a few subtle thick and thin differences throughout the yarn. I didn’t find that to be an issue while making this hat though.
Chroma Twist Bulky is a really fun yarn to work with. It comes in 21 different colorways and each have fun and subtle color changes within them!
For this project you will only need 1 skein of the Chroma Twist Bulky to complete any size!
The KJ Hat crochet pattern comes in 3 sizes – Toddler, Child, and Adult. It is a fitted beanie but the stitch used gives it a lot of stretch.
This pattern is rated Easy in pattern difficulty.
