This pattern has been updated as of November 2025 and now has NO back seam and includes 2 brim options!
The Celtic Weave crochet stitch uses a combination of front and back triple crochet post stitches that sort of intertwine around each other to create the weave effect you see.
This stitch is one of my absolute favorite crochet stitches!
It is so elegant looking! I have quite a few patterns that include this stitch combo.
Pattern Inspiration
When I learned how to do the Celtic Weave crochet stitch I fell in love with it right away! I started designing everything with this stitch! I now have five patterns featuring this stitch!
The hat was one of my first patterns that I designed using this crochet stitch. It took some time to figure out how to decrease and such, but it turned out beautifully!
It is still one of my favorite crochet hat patterns and I love to wear my hat when it’s cold!

Pattern Details
The Yarn
The Celtic Weave Mini Slouch crochet pattern uses a worsted (#4) weight yarn. I love to use WeCrochet Mighty Stitch for these hats.
Mighty stitch is a super soft yarn that is made of 80% acrylic and 20% superwash wool. It comes in a large variety of colors and can be machine washed and dried.
Yarn Substitution Recommendations:
We Crochet Brava Worsted
Depending on the size you make you’ll just need 1-2 skeins of a main color and less than 1 skein of a contrasting color.
This crochet pattern is set to an intermediate skill level. You’ll need to know how to do post stitches, as well as working 2 stitches together.
It is a bottom up workup, with the trim and optional pom pom added at the end.
You can choose to do a braided or ribbed brim that goes all the way around that hat.

The Celtic Weave stitch combo may take some practice, especially if it is your first time, but it is well worth it! You will love the finished project!
This crochet pattern comes with instructions for four sizes; toddler, child, small adult, and large adult.
