The Yarn

The Primrose Blouse is made using worsted weight (#4) yarn. I recommend using something like Caron Simply Soft or WeCrochet Brava Worsted.

This crochet pattern is rated intermediate in pattern difficulty. You will be using a variety of stitches, including the herringbone double crochet stitch.

The pattern comes with written instructions for children’s sizes 2/3 through 10/12.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this crochet top for kids beginner-friendly?

This pattern is rated intermediate, and some familiarity with crocheting garments is recommended. However, if you’re comfortable with basic crochet stitches, you’ll likely find it very approachable. The pattern includes a few special stitches, but don’t let that intimidate you! You can follow my written and video tutorials for both the Primrose Stitch and the Herringbone Double Crochet Stitch for extra guidance along the way.

How do I choose the right size?

To choose the best size, measure the child’s chest circumference at its widest point. Use a soft measuring tape and keep it snug but not tight.

Select the size that most closely matches the measurement. If the child falls between sizes, it’s usually best to size up to allow room for comfort and movement.

For the best fit, have the child try on the top as you work. If it feels too snug around the waist or hips, try going up a hook size or two to create a more comfortable fit.

What yarn works best for this children’s crochet top?

A soft, washable worsted weight yarn works best for this crochet top for kids. Acrylic blends, cotton blends, and soft wool blends are all excellent choices that provide comfort and durability for everyday wear.

Look for a yarn that’s easy to care for, since children’s garments often need frequent washing and plenty of playtime adventures.

Can I make the blouse longer or shorter?

Yes! The length of this crochet top can easily be customized to suit different heights and preferences. Simply add or remove rounds at the bottom of the blouse to create your desired length.

Is there a matching adult version?

There is! The adult Primrose Blouse features the same beautiful stitch combination and makes a wonderful coordinating piece. Whether you’re planning family photos or simply love matching handmade outfits, the adult version makes it easy to create a sweet Mommy-and-Me set.
