The Yarn
You’ll need worsted weight (#4) yarn and a size I crochet hook, or whatever hook you meet gauge with. The pants in the photo above are made using Lion Brand Yarn Jeans yarn in the colorway Stonewash.
Jeans yarn is a super soft and stretchy yarn and is gentle against a baby’s sensitive skin! However, feel free to use any worsted weight (#4) yarn you prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this baby pants pattern beginner-friendly?
Yes! This pattern is rated as easy and uses only basic single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet stitches to create its beautiful texture. The simple top-down construction makes it a great project for adventurous beginners, even if you’ve never crocheted a garment before.
What yarn works best for crochet baby pants?
When crocheting for babies, comfort and practicality are equally important. Choose a soft yarn that’s gentle against baby’s delicate skin, and look for one that’s machine washable and dryable for easy care. The recommended yarn is a great choice because it’s both cozy to wear and simple to clean after inevitable little messes.
How do I choose the right size?
For the best fit, have baby wear a close-fitting onesie and measure around the waist using a soft measuring tape. Keep the tape snug but not tight, then choose the size that most closely matches that measurement. You can also customize the fit by adding or removing rows to adjust the leg length.
Can I make these as a baby shower gift?
Absolutely! These crochet baby pants work up quickly and make a thoughtful handmade gift for a new arrival. Consider making two or three pairs in different sizes so baby has a cozy pair ready to wear as they grow during the first two years.
Do you have any matching baby patterns with this stitch combination?
Yes! The Little Textures stitch pattern is also featured in a matching newborn beanie, baby sweater, and baby skirt, making it easy to create an adorable coordinated outfit. Together, they make a wonderful handmade gift set for baby showers or a special welcome-home outfit.
Love this stitch pattern? I’ve also used it in several patterns for older children and adults, including a hooded cowl and an ear warmer and boot cuffs set, so the whole family can enjoy the Little Textures collection.

To fix the gap in between the two pant legs, with a long piece of yarn and a yarn needle seam it together.
Optional: Add button right in the middle of the waistline.
If you’d rather make a tie, chain to about the length and a half of your waistline, knot on both ends. Use your hook to weave it through the stitches of the waistband.
