The Vinnie Sweater crochet pattern is a vintage striped crochet sweater that is perfect for fall! It’s cozy, oversized, and so cute!

Pattern Inspiration

For this sweater design I had a specific look in mind. I wanted a oversized, striped sweater for fall. Something not too heavy and great for the transitioning seasons.

I was inspired by the vintage striped sweaters of the 80s and 90s. You know the ones! Way oversized and so many stripes! I created a modern take on those styles with a cropped length and sleeves!

I’m really happy with how it turned out. I loved the colors I chose and the easy workup of the sweater!

The Yarn

This vintage striped crochet sweater is made using Swish DK from WeCrochet. This luxurious yarn is made with 100% fine superwash merino wool. It is so soft and so nice to work with!

This yarn comes in 42 colors and is perfect for sweaters, cardigans, and just about anything you want to make! It can be machine washed, on cold in the gentle cycle, and tumble dried on low.

It is a luxurious yarn and is priced on the higher end, at $5.99 per skein. If you’re looking for something on the lower end of the price range I’d recommend WeCrochet Brava Sport.

I chose the colors (pictured left to right) Mimic (28642), Cobblestone Heather (24313), Marina (25578), Squirrel Heather (24948), Allspice (25579).

The Pattern

This crochet sweater pattern is rated Easy in pattern difficulty. It uses very basic crochet stitches, half double crochet and single crochet.

The sweater is worked from the top down in a circular yoke style, You will start with the neckline trim and work in the round, increasing each round. From there you will skip a certain number of stitches to create the armholes.

The stripes that create the vintage striped crochet sweater and made using 5 colors, changing colors every 2 rounds.

This sweater can be easily customized in both length and width. My sample is made cropped in both the body of the sweater and the sleeves, but you can add as much length to either as you prefer. The pattern includes the multiples used for easy width adjustment.

The crochet pattern comes with instructions for women’s sizes XS to 5X. The pattern has 4-6″ of positive ease and is meant to be oversized. For a more fitted look go down a size.
