The Alder Slouch is a men’s slouch hat pattern from my book Crochet Makes for Men. This book includes 12 modern and masculine crochet patterns for men. Included are patterns for both garments and accessories. The garments are size inclusive, with instructions for 8 sizes, from Small to 5X. There are also 4 hat patterns, and 2 scarf patterns in the book. These patterns use simple stitches to create amazingly attractive menswear.

About Alder
The Alder Slouch is a really simple, no frills slouch hat that the guys love! It is worked from the bottom up and can easily be adjusted. It has negative ease and stretches to fit.
The main stitch throughout the hat is the herringbone half double crochet stitch. It’s one of my favorite stitches for subtle texture and a tight fabric.
This pattern comes in three sizes to fit heads with a circumference of 20″ to 23″.
The Yarn
This crochet slouch hat is made using worsted weight (#4) yarn. I used WeCrochet Swish Worsted in the colorway Pinecone Heather.
Swish worsted is a lighter worsted weight yarn, made of 100% fine superwash merino wool. It is very soft and comfortable against the skin. It can be machine washed and dried.
Some other substitutions you could use for this project are:
Brava Worsted – 100% premium acrylic
Mighty Stitch – 80% acrylic, 20% superwash wool
Basic Stitch – 100% acrylic
Everyday Worsted – 100% acrylic
